VKAP’s Blog

In today’s world many grandparents and other relatives are stepping up to raise the children. We help Kinship caregivers who find it challenging to navigate legal, education, childcare, financial, nutrition and medical resources at local, state and federal levels.

Our Mission and Vision:

At Vermont Kin as Parents (VKAP), our mission is to empower kinship caregivers who are raising children not their own by providing support, resources, and advocacy. We serve kinship families throughout Vermont who need assistance navigating the challenges of raising children in their care. VKAP fulfills the critical need of providing safe, stable, and nurturing homes for children who are unable to live with their birth parents. We fulfill this need by providing kinship caregivers with access to support groups, educational opportunities, information and referral services, and advocacy efforts. VKAP exists to ensure that all kinship families in Vermont are valued, respected, and supported, and to promote a culture of kinship care that prioritizes the well-being of children and recognizes the strengths and contributions of kinship caregivers.
